Psoriasis
In this case, it's not just a skin condition - it's a chronic, systemic inflammatory disease that goes beyond the skin.
Plaques result from inflammation of the skin; however, that inflammation affects the whole body, which is why psoriasis patients have a higher risk of other conditions such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, and depression, among others.
It presents with various signs and symptoms such as dry skin, itching, pain, thick scales, and red patches; it can also affect the nails and joints, and in some cases these are the only areas affected.
