CLINICAL DERMATOLOGY
Do you know what hyperhidrosis is?
It is excessive sweating caused by a malfunction of the sympathetic nervous system. Because of this malfunction, the body produces more sweat than needed to regulate its temperature, causing discomfort.
In its more severe forms, it can lead to fungal infections, flaking, odor, irritation, and skin pigmentation. Excessive sweating can be triggered by:
genetic factors, stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as other conditions such as hormonal disorders, medication overuse, perimenopause, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and obesity, among others.
It can occur in different areas of the body: the palms, soles, face, and - most commonly - the underarms.
There are several medical treatments available, including botulinum toxin injections. The procedure takes about 30 minutes in the office and provides 4 to 6 months of dry underarms.
How does the toxin work? It blocks the acetylcholine receptors at the injection site. This inhibits the signal that triggers the sweat glands, preventing bothersome excessive sweating. Topical anesthesia is applied during the procedure to minimize discomfort. Ten minutes and DONE - just wait for the results!!!
Don't hesitate to book your consultation to see if this or another available treatment is right for you.
